Chemical peels like laser are used to improve the quality of skin by removing the superficial damaged layers. Chemical solution are used. Commonly used solution are Phenol, trichloroacetic acid (TCA) and alphahydroxy acids (AHAs). AHAs produce the light superficial peel. TCA is used for medium depth peeling while Phenol is used for deep peeling. Chemical peel can be used by themselves or in association with other facial procedure.

This peels are office procedure and done under sedation, anaesthesia is not necessary.

Chemical peel using AHAs or TCA usually takes 10 to 15 minutes to apply, whereas Phenol peeling generally takes one or two hours to perform for the whole face. With the light peel one can return to work within 2 weeks.
